MOJACAR, SPAIN – Spanish police in carried out a European Arrest Warrant last Thursday, taking into custody a Belgian man facing a prison term for fraud and forgery.
Identified only as "Jean-Marie W.", the 63-year-old Belgian man was convicted in 2007 for swindling a Hasselt couple out of € 62,000 for a proposed hotel project in Limburg five years earlier.
The arrest was made Thursday night on a public street in this seaside village near Almeria. Police had been informed of the man's presence by Interpol.
An arrest warrant was issued in May 2011 by the Court of Appeal of
Antwerp, Europa Press said.
