Report: Anti-Semitism Strong Among Muslim Students

May 14, 2011, 11:17 am

BRUSSELS – On Friday, De Morgen published the results of a study titled “Jong in Brussel” that claims half of Brussels’ Muslim students are anti-Semites (link in Dutch). Sociologist Mark Elchardus of the VUB called the figures “worrying.”

"Worse," he said, "the anti-Jewish feelings have nothing to do with a low level of education or social disadvantage, as is the case with [native Belgian] racists."

Students were asked to agree or disagree with a series of statements. On average, 10 percent of native Belgians agreed with the anti-Jewish statements.
